Island race
Some 1,580 yachts set sail from the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes at 6.30am today to race around the Isle Of Wight. Best vantage points include Yarmouth, The Needles, St Catherine's Point, Ventnor and Bonchurch, Ryde Pier and Gilkicker Point.

Garden steps
Watch the Rambert Dance Company rehearsing around Blickling Hall this week, culminating in a garden performance on Friday.

Shopping adventure
Glasgow's huge new Outdoor Experience is partly landscaped to resemble a Scottish hillside, with 10 outdoor interactive areas where shoppers can test and trial clothes and equipment, including a 20ft ice wall.

Leith festival
A week of arts, music and children's events kicks off on Leith Links, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, with bands, pipe drums, country dancing, ceilidhs and fireworks.
