First impressions High-end B&B with chintz tendencies. African grey parrot is a nice touch - feathers, geddit?
What are the rooms like? Laura Ashley excesses more than made up for by elegant antiques, excellent stereo system and two TVs.
The bed test Pass with distinction.
The bathroom test Plenty of room to do a full Canadian Air Force exercise routine, then practice your backstroke in the bath.
The restaurant The reason to make the journey - taste Mark Treasure's caramalised onions and you will instantly forgive the slightly prim surroundings.
The lounge Plenty of animal pics and a collection of Staffordshire pottery to entertain you if someone else has got the backgammon board.
What is there to see within walking distance? Capability Brown's breath-takingly beautiful handiwork at Blenheim Palace - the two-hour walk around the perimeter should just about work off one of Mr Treasure's courses.
What is there to see within a 10-minute drive? A few fusty old Oxford colleges - but gaining entry can be problematic.
How much a night? Doubles from £130, suites from £235; suite with steam room and two bathrooms (why?) - £290.
Would you go back? As long as there are caramalised onions on the menu.
