I was doing some shows in Bermuda for the Summer Jam. I went in search of the Bermuda Triangle, but found the Bermuda Circle instead.
This is a competition featuring lots of local women dancing in grass thongs and bikinis to salsa and reggae-type music. I was staying at the Sonesta Beach Hotel and it was night-time.
The women dance in large circles, someone throws coconuts into what looks like a hollowed-out calabash tree and the winner is the one who pots most. I hit a woman on the head by mistake. It was really embarrassing and apologised a lot. She was fine and said it happened quite often.
I did win the coconut-throwing though, and my prize was to dance with the lovely women and to go on a tour of the island.
The style of dancing was quite different from mine, but enjoyable. The most memorable part was dancing. One girl had really big feet; I stepped on them by mistake.
Lots of other events were happening on the beach, such as karaoke and wet T-shirt competitions. I tried not to look at the wet T-shirt competitors but couldn't help myself.
My rapping experience won me a pineapple and a teddy bear. One line I still remember was, 'I'm number one in your karaoke, I'm originally from Stokee. I move so quick, but I'm not smoky.'
A guy who was a bit confused, came up and said: 'I know that song' and started singing the hokey cokey. I replied with another rap.
I didn't get as far as taking a boat out to look for the Bermuda Triangle in the end.
What is supposed to happen on the other side is a bit worrying; far better to stick with the Bermuda Circle instead.
