Shell out
A ceremonial landing of oysters at Whitstable today is followed by oyster-opening competitions and cookery demonstrations, Morris dancing, folk music and Viking battles on the seafront.

Cue Cumbria
It may look like a Teletubby house, but Rheged, a new, grass-covered discovery centre, should be everyone's first port of call in the Lake District. Celtic history, Arthurian legend, Wordsworth, an action-packed film and local foods and crafts on offer.

Taken for a ride
Philip Schofield, aka Dr Doolittle, is at Crealy Adventure Park in Devon today to launch El Pastil Loco, a £400,000 family rollercoaster.

Steam on down to the London Transport Museum for children's activities (giant inflatable train, stage shows, badge making...) that herald a six-week Thomas the Tank Engine exhibition.

Abbey habit
History comes to life at Tintern Abbey with the liberal use of fireworks, visual effects and action from over 100 actors, staged to mark the millennium in Monmouthshire.
