First impressions: A country house set in spacious grounds - a tad nouveau, but comfortably far from the hubbub.
What are the rooms like: All individually named - hibiscus, mulberry, that kind of thing - they are comfy and spacious. Perhaps a bit chintzy, but they're fully equipped and made for relaxing.
The bed test: The room's best feature. A four-poster with good, solid mattress and a fantastic, quilt-like mattress cover. Dreamy.
The bathroom test: Power shower, bath with instant hot water. Lots of free creams, and best of all - fluffy dressing gowns and slippers.
The restaurant: The food is extremely good, if slightly rich. Presented well by a head chef who won Michelin stars in his last job. Service a shade eccentric from a staff who barely speak English, but the artichoke heart starter was a winner and the pear tatin pudding a treat.
What is there to see within walking distance? Don't bother. Keep your bathrobe on - everybody else does - and head for the spa. Masseurs may be a bit feeble for those who like a real pummelling, but otherwise it's a fast-track to Zen-like relaxation. Jet-bath yourself with oils, hop from the Jacuzzi to the sauna and fantasise that you're in Rome in the age of decadence.
What is there to see within a 10-minute drive? The M25. Don't laugh, the big advantage is that it's such a quick getaway from London.
How much a night? Doubles from £154.
Would you go back? As soon as I feel like letting my hair down for a weekend of indulgence, I'll know where to go.
