First Impressions: A peaceful, luxurious haven amid the buzz of central London. The eclectic mix of furnishings and decor gives the feeling of a splendid private residence where you immediately feel at home.

What are the rooms like: The Grand Suite is grand without being intimidating, perfect for entertaining or just relaxing on your own.

The bed test: Four-poster luxury. Just pull the drapes around the bed, sink your head into the feather pillows and London could be a million miles away.

The bathroom test: Marble tiled with powerful shower and generous supply of oils and salts. A second cloakroom is a useful addition for those seeking a place for contemplation.

The restaurant: No formal restaurant, but the café bar serves breakfast (continental £12.50 or full English £17) and light meals in comfortable surroundings. Room service is 24 hours.

What is there to see within walking distance? Oxford Street, Bond Street and Mayfair are minutes away. Hotel guests also have access to the private gardens of Portman Square. Fashionable bars and restaurants are a short stroll away at St Christopher's Place.

What is there to see within a 10-minute drive? Traffic permitting, everything that London's West End has to offer.

How much for a night? A one-bedroom Grand Suite costs £390, a Deluxe double/ twin £190, a one-bedroom suite £225 and a two-bedroom Deluxe Suite from £420-£480, plus VAT. Special weekend rates with breakfast, half a bottle of champagne and a box of handmade fudge included in the price.

Would you go back? If I could afford it, I would spend a week in a Grand Suite here at least once a year to enjoy the relaxed luxury and space of the hotel while taking advantage of its central location.
