There is no need to take a travel plug to Asia, despite what the guide books say. Also, small items of clothing can be washed in the shower using shampoo and every hotel has a bucket that you can borrow for heavier items. Shampoo is better than detergent as it rinses out much more quickly and doesn't irritate the skin.

To stop sand sticking to damp feet on the beach, dust with talcum powder. It will dry your feet and prevent sand from rubbing when you put your shoes on.

Coconut oil applied to the skin is an excellent chemical-free mosquito repellent. Washing with coconut soap also helps.
