I'm Qian Xi - 18, Singaporean, female. I'm so envious of your round-the-world trip! Of course that's not my reason for emailing - just wanted to tell you that if you want to see the 'real' Singapore, take a bus into any HDB (Housing Development Board) estate at about 6pm when everyone's going home and you'll get a look into where and how most of the population lives. HDB estates are completely un-touristy. Of course, don't forget to go to Chinatown and Little India; Orchard Road is essential (focal point of our consumerist culture, sadly) but not quite so interesting. Actually I probably can think of more but these are the basic must-sees. Do email me if there's anything you need to know. Can't wait till my A levels are over and I get to do my own travelling!
