I'm kayaking mad, but it plays havoc with my feet. Thin rubber socks in the water don't offer much protection against jagged rocks , but regular trainers weigh a ton when water logged. Any thoughts?
Watusi Trainers are slip-on amphibious footwear with a sturdy rubber sole to protect you from jagged rocks. They look like regular, running shoes but are aimed at those who just can't help getting seriously wet in pursuit of happiness.
A thick sole, is that it?
Nope. They are made from a lightweight man-made airmesh material called "synthetic nubuck", and have an elasticated inner collar like the top of a sock to ensure a more watertight fit when you splash around lightly. If you do get your trainers wet through, they are quick-drying. Efficient drainage has been built into the design.
Do they only do slip-ons?
No. The River Trainers are made the same way, but lace-up instead. And the lace-holes have been anodised to fight off rust from regular soakings.
How much?
The Watusi trainers sell for £39.99, the River Trainers for £44.99. Both from Columbia Sportswear (020-8996 8010).
