Avoid dehydration in hot climates by regularly checking the colour of your urine. If it's a pale straw colour it's okay, but a darker colour means your not drinking enough water. Not a great holiday pastime but it could save your life!

When catching a Cuban intercity bus, make sure that you queue in the right places. Having a piece of paper in advance that indicates you've paid for a seat doesn't necessarily mean you'll get on the bus, as you have to swap it for an actual ticket 1-1 hours before the bus departs.

In France, if you break or lose your sunglasses, don't replace them from the supermarket or high-priced tourist shops. Much higher quality sunglasses can be bought from opticians for the same price or less.
