Pop group S Club 7 perform the annual ritual of switching on the Christmas lights in London's Oxford Street next week. The ceremony takes place outside John Lewis. They will then be lit at dusk until January 6.

Mud tussle

Tor by torchlight

A mile-long illuminated procession will wind through Glastonbury today as the Somerset town stages its annual Guy Fawkes carnival. Singing, dancing and some 10,000 light bulbs.

Newson's choice

A cosmonaut's space suit and a hand-made Rich Harbour surfboard are among the choices made by designer Marc Newson, this year's guest curator invited by Sir Terence Conran to spend £30,000 on "things you'd like to live with".
