Make sure you go to the Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne at 6am to buy fruit, pastries or anything else (just fantastic in the summer) - then try brunch at Cafe Segovia in the Block Arcade (near Collins Street) or at Cafe Blu Pols in Prahran (the hollandaise is better at the former).

Get out to the wineries - Domaine Chandon has a great view from its tasting room, but it's expensive. If you're strapped for cash, you can save some money by having dinner in Chinatown at any restaurant with a Chinese only menu - huge bowl of noodles for around $7. Make sure you allocate some wonga for a champagne cocktail at the top of the ANZ building on Collins Street.
