Austria
Simply put, this is the best skiing in Europe. Zell am See (****) has excellent tree-skiing on superb pistes, plus the benefit of the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier (****) just up the road. St Anton (****) is just as good, with an excellent base on all pistes and lovely groomed runs.
France
The snow cannons are on permanently - a big dump of natural snow would improve conditions dramatically. Tignes (***) has great skiing up on the Grand Motte glacier, but the runs to the resort are becoming worn. Alpe d'Huez (***) also has good skiing up high, but there is none at all off-piste.
Switzerland
The quality of the snow up at the top of the resorts is excellent, but patchy in the resorts. Verbier (**) has some excellent snow up at the top of Mont Fort, but is extremely thin at resort level. In the east, Davos (***) has much better conditions overall.
Italy
There has been a severe lack of snow across Italy, and the conditions are generally poor. Some of the best can be found in La Thuile (***) where 70% of the slopes are open. However, conditions in the Dolomites are poor, where both Cortina (*) and Madonna (*) only have artificial snow.
Andorra
Conditions are becoming hard and icy in places, with fresh snow needed. In Soldeu (***) all lifts are open and there is a great base up high, but slopes lower down are becoming worn. Arinsal (***) is in a similar situation.
America
Vail (****) has seen more than a foot-and-a-half of snow in the past few days, and both on- and off-piste are excellent. Conditions are equally good in Breckenridge (****). On the east, Killington (***) has had over a foot of fresh snow in three days.
Canada
Sunshine (***) has seen plenty of fresh snow recently and more is forecast. On the east coast, Tremblant (**) is improving.
Key to conditions
No snowflakes = A serious lack of snow, no lifts open.
* = Poor snow conditions, very few lifts open.
** = Conditions are reasonable, some slopes in poor shape.
*** = Plenty of good skiing.
**** = Good conditions can be found throughout the resort.
***** = Fantastic on- and off-piste conditions.
