In what way is it "mine"?

A cynic would say that Mytravel.co.uk is the rebranded version of the old Airtours website, but it certainly bears little resemblance to the old one. Airtours Mark Two is personalised. In other words, it will tell you where it thinks you should go.

And where's that?

You'll have to register and try it for yourself, but I obediently filled in the form - hesitating for a while over whether to describe myself as "single", a "couple" or a "young and lively couple" - and explained which airport I wanted to leave from, and the country I wanted to visit (the US). The Power Search suggested a week at the Quality Inn Plaza in Florida for £329, but I wasn't convinced and decided instead to look up Morocco. Unfortunately, MyTravel had nothing there for a young and lively couple, so, growing desperate, I opted for a four-star hotel in Bali.

Almost a bargain at £891.

The photographs were certainly inspiring. Encouraged to consult MyTravel's "totally independent" resort reviews - many clicks away - I learned that Nusa Dua was a "beautiful, groomed tourist development" with, what's more, "landscape gardens and a sophisticated waste treatment system".

What a relief!

Quite. This is a clunky and opaque effort, although it will serve as a decent enough pit-stop for those looking for something from Airtours, Cresta, Bridge or Direct Holidays. It has the usual accommodation-allocated-on-arrival late bargains to the Med and some reasonable articles, but the design and navigation are poorly conceived.
