Snow of the week

Snow of the week

Fernie, British Columbia, has all its runs open, a fresh dusting of snow and a consolidated depth of 190cm on the lower slopes and a whopping 310cm on the uppers. This is simply ski perfect. Andorra, which has had some of the better and more consistent conditions of the European winter, received 20-40cm of fresh snow last week and, with temperatures dropping, there are great on-piste conditions, and fresh tracks are possible off-piste. Soldeu has 60cm on lower slopes and 130cm higher.

Deal of the week

Chamjam is a snowboard/ski and music festival running from 4-8 March in Chamonix. Freeskiers and snowboarders compete for the title of 'the most extreme' (and cash), and there are music events each night in town. Freshtraxxx (01935 424145) offers one week's full board accommodation (with wine) from £445, including transfers and a six-day lift pass so you can check out all the mountain action. EasyJet (0870 6000 000) will fly you from Gatwick to Geneva from £66.

Website of the week

www.teletextholidays.co.uk has a Winter Olympics 2002 animated interactive link which stylishly offers all the information you could possibly need on Olympics past and present. It includes the latest results, an explanation of why the snow in Utah is so good, and how Great Britain has won just seven golds over the 19 Winter Olympics compared with Norway's 83. If you're inspired, you can book your ski holiday online.
