First impressions: Gorgeous location in undeveloped part of the North York Moors.

What are the rooms like? A bit chintzy, but redecoration is promised and you don't spend much time in your room anyway - the Orange Tree specialises in relaxation weekends featuring massage, sauna, yoga, relaxation and breathing sessions.

The bed test: Slept like a baby after all that relaxing.

The bathroom test: Not great; a bit like an old-style B&B. But at these prices...

The restaurant: Meals are communal (you need to be sociable); the food is wholesome and homely, the kind of stuff a friend who likes cooking might make you on a cold Friday night. There's a lot of it.

The bar: No bar, but plenty of wines to order with dinner.

What is there to do within walking distance? Fabulous walks in the area: the village of Rosedale Abbey, the Lyke Wake Walk.

Further afield? York is a drive away - as are Scarborough, the coast and the Yorkshire market towns of Pickering, Malton and Helmsley. There is the Grosmont to Pickering Steam Railway for steam enthusiasts and Goathland (Heartbeat country) for lovers of strange retro telly.

How much? An amazing £115 per person - which includes two nights' accommodation, all meals from Friday night to Sunday lunchtime, four relaxation sessions, and use of the sauna. Massages are £14.
