Couples planning their weddings abroad are turning to Cyprus ahead of some Caribbean and Indian Ocean beach resorts because they can opt for a church wedding.
Cyprus jumped ahead of Mauritius, Jamaica and Antigua to third spot in the annual American Express survey of weddings abroad. Barbados remains the top choice for overseas weddings followed by St Lucia.
Amex vice president Brendan Walsh said: "Several hotels in Cyprus have their own chapels and it is possible to arrange ceremonies in local churches; this is a real incentive for couples who want a more traditional wedding experience."
