· We recommend that you book now, as even in October, the weather is still good in southern Italy and it remains a popular place to visit during school holiday times. · I went to Pompei last year around November time and stayed in Naples. This, I think, is the best solution because Naples is a great city and has easy access by train to Pompei, which is an overpriced tourist centre. This also offers you the chance to visit places like Erculanum/Herculanum (fantastic and, although not as big as Pompei, definitely as interesting) and, if you have time, Capri, etc.

I wouldn't rush to book. Nowadays there is no reason to rush with the internet. I did all my research on the internet and found a great looking hotel called Pinto Storey but unfortunately they were renovating it at the time. We set our heart on another one but it wasn't that good so I won't recommend it.

I am sure you can find a cheap flight easily at that time of the year, we did last year and I booked everything around a month before going!

Don't stress, browse around and enjoy Pompei, it's brilliant!
