As a single parent, I would like to take my 11-year-old son skiing. But I am not a confident enough skier to take him on my own and would like some company for both of us.

Esprit Ski (01256 618300, esprit-holidays.co.uk) has some single-parent family offers, with parent and child sharing. There will be other parents and kids around for company, and your son can join the Sprite Improvers classes, costing £255 for five full days. Chalet Camelia in La Rosière, France, sleeps 14, and one week's half-board costs £739 (March 28-April 4) including flights and transfers, with 20% discount for your son.
Do you have any information about skiing with an artificial knee, and do you know of any insurance company that would give me cover?
M Burgess
You must take your surgeon's advice as to if and when you can return to skiing, but I know two skiers who have returned to the sport after knee replacements - one of them is 76. Bodyfactor (020-7420 1440/ 01932 564364, bodyfactor.co.uk) at Snow & Rock in Covent Garden, London, and Chertsey, Surrey, runs a programme to get you back to your maximum capacity. After a 90-minute assessment (£105), you will be given exercises to do at home or in the gym.
Ski insurance broker MPI (01428 664363, mpibrokers.com) would refer you to a medical screening line for a pre-existing injury, and there may be an additional premium to pay.
