Reel Manhattan

The Tribeca film festival, created in 2002 by Robert de Niro, takes place on May 1-9 this year. As well as the screening of several new films from the Middle East, American movies and classics including a restored version of Beckett starring Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole, there'll be concerts, art exhibitions and panel discussions. For somewhere to stay during the festival, check into New York's latest boutique offering, the Gansevoort Hotel. With a rooftop garden, 45ft glass-surrounded pool and location in the Meatpacking District - home to Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen's flagship stores - it's being tipped as the Big Apple's next cool hangout.
