The final frontier moved a step closer for ordinary travellers last week when Burt Rutan's SpaceShipOne successfully completed the first private sub-orbital space flight. Enterprising tour operator WildWings Space Adventures (0117 9658 333; www.wildwings.co.uk has been taking bookings for the first commercial space flights since 1997. So far almost 200 people worldwide, including five Britons, have paid the £6,000 deposit to go on the waiting list for the first flights which are expected to depart in 2006/7. The cost of a flight which will travel 100km into the earth's atmosphere and allow passengers to experience weightlessness is £57,000, which includes four days' training, a sub-orbital space flight and, most importantly, a commemorative lapel pin.
