According to British Airways, two-thirds of us don't know how to deal with jet lag. Bad news for anybody with a business meeting in Hong Kong according to BA's Dr Chris Idzikowski: "If you travel on business from London to Hong Kong, which is eight hours ahead of the UK, you will hit your maximum sleepiness between the hours of 11am and 1pm Hong Kong time. If you plan a business meeting around this time it is the equivalent of planning a meeting between 3am and 5am at home."

Of course, there are advantages to jet lag. Travel east from the UK and you've got the perfect excuse to lie in. On your return, you'll be up ridiculously early, thus ensuring you can impress your boss by turning up at the office at 6.30 in the morning. There are also destinations where jet lag doesn't really matter. Travel to Vegas and you don't need to adjust. The casinos and restaurants are just as willing to take your money at 4am as at 4pm.

But if you really need to get over jet lag, Dr Idzikowski is on hand with an online advisor to combat tiredness. It includes the usual advice for air passengers about adjusting sleep patterns and mealtimes to those of your destination (easy when you're in first class, not so easy when you're reliant on the crawl of the economy class meal trolley). Personally, I've always found a Richard Gere film allows me to drop off inflight if I need to adjust my body clock, but any other suggestions are more than welcome.
