Interview by Carl Wilkinson

Me and my travels

As a child I went on some amazing holidays. I went to Montserrat in the Caribbean when I was about five.

I'll never go back to ...

St Moritz. We went in the summer because my husband, Kenny Logan, was training for the Rugby World Cup and had to go somewhere close with good weather and training facilities. We stayed at the Badrutt's Palace Hotel, which is lovely, but there was nothing going on. Every restaurant was closed and Kenny had to borrow a jacket to dine in the hotel. The place was full of old people who looked like they'd gone out there to die! Next morning we drove to Zurich and flew to the South of France.

I never travel without ...

My Smythson diary. I could spend hours poring over it in airport lounges working out how I can squeeze an extra hour into my week.

My favourite hotel is ...

Twin Farms in Vermont. You stay in lodges dotted through an amazing wood. Each has a different theme. Ours was a 1,500 sq ft artist's studio filled with original Warhols. There was an outdoor Jacuzzi and the service was the best I've ever experienced. They'd know when you went for a walk in the woods and when you returned there would be a tray of fruit and hot tea waiting for you.

As a child ...

I went on some amazing holidays. I went to Montserrat in the Caribbean when I was about five. Because of the football season, my dad [Terry Yorath] could only go on holiday in May and June, so I was always taken out of school for a couple of weeks, but my mum thought travel was an important part of my education.

My ideal travelling companion is ...

My husband. He's had 70 caps for Scotland so has travelled the world. He's an excellent packer, usually ends up repacking my bags before we go and is really good in airports. He's the opposite of my dad, whose experience of travel as a footballer was to hand over his passport when he got on the coach and then find himself in a hotel 10 hours later.

My favourite beaches are ...

Those in the south west of England beat anywhere really because there's nobody on them. The beaches in Scotland and in Northumberland are great too. I'd rather be all dressed up warm on a cold beach than lie on a hot beach for hours and hours.

I've always wanted to visit ...

China. When I was nine I lived in Vancouver, which has the world's second-largest Chinatown. It was fascinating. I also had a brilliant Chinese teacher who each day would say a profound Chinese proverb. I've been interested in China ever since and I've always wanted to go.
