Alexandra Palace, London
Not only is Alexandra Palace a great vantage point from which to spy most of London's glittering landscape, but it's also home to a huge fireworks display this Saturday. Something of a north London institution, the event seems to increase in size each year. This year, there will be a food and beer festival, indoor ice-skating and a funfair alongside an impressive fireworks display in the park. When: Saturday November 4, fireworks start at 7.30pm
Where: Alexandra Palace
How much: Adults £2, children £1.50

Cardiff
The Cardiff Round Table fireworks display is the biggest in Wales and has dramatic Cardiff castle as a backdrop. You may not get to see the peacocks that normally roam the grounds but the displays should be just as colourful and impressive. There will also be a number of rides for children and plenty of food stalls to stock up on baked potatoes and treacle toffee.
When: Saturday November 4. Bonfire starts at 7pm, with the firework display at 8pm
Where: Bute Park
How much: Adults £5, children £3, family ticket £10

Winchester
If standing in a muddy field on Saturday doesn't appeal, you could duck underground to uncover the real story of the gunpowder plot. The Royal Armouries Fort Nelson near Winchester will transform its tunnels and underground chambers into King James' London with professional actors and the museum's living history team hosting a reenacting of the great plot for visitors. Tours will include a couple of explosions.
When: Friday 3 and Saturday 4. Tours will take place throughout the evening.
Where: Royal Armouries Fort Nelson
How much: Adults £4, children £2.50

Birmingham
Edgbaston cricket ground is hosting a "fire and light" event this Sunday with huge metal animal sculptures taking centre stage alongside fireworks, lasers and live music. The show is an all-seater event and the venue should provide visitors with a hawk-eye view of the action.
When: Sunday November 5. Shows start at 5.15pm
Where: Edgbaston Cricket Ground
How much: Adults £4, children £3

Liverpool
It will be fiery across the Mersey this Sunday in Liverpool as the annual display takes to the water. Fireworks will be released from a barge in the middle of the river at Kings Dock with a musical accompaniment.
Where: Kings Dock, Liverpool
When: Sunday November 5
How much: Free
