We're familiar with the concept of pod hotels - compact designer rooms at low prices. But we weren't prepared for the latest hotel development to be rolled out in Austria: the drainpipe. An Austrian art college graduate has taken some sections of industrial piping and planted them next to the Danube in a park in Ottensheim near Linz. Near to the public toilets, showers and cafe, obviously. Welcome to Dasparkhotel. The sections are just big enough to squeeze in a double bed, a shelf and lamp, and they have a window. You book online, they release a code to open the door, and you pay what you think is fair.
