Museum set piece

Brussels is providing an unexpected source of solace for football fans desperate to fill those long summer days until the start of next season.

So summer's here which means that age-old question raises its head again (for football fans at least) - how to fill those long summer days until the start of next season. This year the answer comes from an unlikely place - Brussels. Not especially noted for its footballing prowess, it's true - how many famous Belgium players can you name? - which is perhaps why it's taken a more esoteric approach to the beautiful game. The centrepiece of a new exhibition at the Musées Royaux d'Art et d'Histoire which "seeks to examine Europe through football", is a giant interactive table-football game. Other features include footie artefacts, recordings of supporters' songs, portraits of players, sculptures and art. The Floris Avenue, a four-star hotel mid-way between the Eurostar terminal and the Grand Place, is available through HotelConnect (0845 2308888, hotelconnect.co.uk) from £29pp.

·Only a Game: entrance €4, under 12s free until August 26, onlyagame.be.
