Been there photo competition November 2008

November saw a flurry of winter-themed photos - so snuggle in with a mug of hot chocolate and browse a selection of our favourites

The Jewish quarter of Krakow in Poland — James Steward: "I took this photo on a freezing cold day last Christmas in the Jewish quarter of Krakow in Poland. I really like the symmetry and bleakness of the shot, and the way the tracks running off into the distance gives you a sense of the unknown and expectation. Ice fishing, northern Sweden — Lynne Woodward: "Ice fishing through a small hole drilled in the ice is very popular in the north of Sweden. At this competition hundreds of people, many in family groups, huddled down to see who could pull the biggest fish.
