I took this photo in India. While walking alongside the Tungabhadra river in Hampi, I glimpsed these guys seemingly unawares of the perils of taking their morning wash in the rocky waters. Suffice to say, they came out unscathed!

A group of mountain bikers well outside their comfort zone! Many tourists attempt to jump off those cliffs. One Sunday morning after breakfast on the seaside terrace, I was about to leave when I spotted this teenager climbing up the lookout tower.
In what seemed like a second, he leaped forth, did a flip - which I caught - and headed straight into the water.
Photograph: Lebawit Girma/guardian.co.ukOn a recent trip to Afghanistan i was in Lashkar Gah and met this lady who is a Sargent in the local Counter Narcotics Unit.
She picked up my helmet and asked to have a photo taken, I was told later, that in a former life she was an interrogator and had skinned at least two Russian soldiers alive.
A chance encounter, on a risky trip - what have those beautiful eyes seen?Photograph: Raeph Ballantyne/guardian.co.ukThe photograph was taken at Leeds city fair. I like the way the boys' mother has turned round and is looking at the girl screaming on the ramp behind. Her and her son certainly look a bit nervous as does the boy in front, while the two boys behind apparently don't have a care in the world.Photograph: Barry Cawston/guardian.co.ukOn the road to Milford Sound in the South Island of New Zealand you come to a single track tunnel where the convoys of tourists stop to wait their turn to pass. There they are preyed on by Kea, scarily intelligent parrotty things with a sharp pointy beak and big claws. Having tired of ripping the flesh from the backs of sick sheep they turn their attention to softer targets. Mainly interested in food they are also extremely partial to rubber window seals and anything else they can break off, and they are not afraid to get into the car. I particularly liked the reflection in the door mirror which shows this chance encounter between the Kea and my other half.Photograph: Dave Roberts/guardian.co.ukThis picture was taken in a house in Dublin and it was the only chance to win this game. Look at the people around - they are very aprehensive.Photograph: Chanel de Carli/guardian.co.ukA local rider taking his chance against the Malaysian highway code.Photograph: Krystyna Lucuk/guardian.co.ukAfter a hard days work planting trees in NSW, Australia, a few of us decided to have a crate race across this large pond. But going by what was in that water, they were certainly taking a chance! Photograph: Emily Gionis/guardian.co.ukHaving slept so badly camping that I awoke at 4.00, I arrived outside the valley about an hour before dawn. Despite the sign encouraging you to do otherwise, what could say "seize the day" more than a sunrise in Monument Valley?Photograph: Bob Morgan/guardian.co.ukThis unfortunate tourist was peering down into a deep hole in the cliffs at Fanabe near Playa Las Americas, Tenerife. Suddenly a freak wave hit the cliffs below and an enormous geyser of sea water shot up into the air. She ended up being completely soaked. I never again saw such a huge geyser in that spot.Photograph: Brian Blackford/guardian.co.ukJamie Lafferty: In Hout Bay on the outskirts of Cape Town, Peter feeds his favourite fur seal, Petey Boy. For reasons only known to himself, his preferred method is mouth to mouth. While he’s been doing it for 27 years, he doesn’t recommend anyone else takes the chance of doing the same thing; a boy was mauled earlier in the year when trying to copy his technique.Photograph: Jamie Lafferty/guardian.co.ukI never thought I would get the chance to see an albino kangeroo, especially in a small zoo in Borth, Mid Wales!
Photograph: Catharine Southern/guardian.co.ukI was walking up a steep hill from the funeral ghats on the Ganges in Varanasi, when I turned a corner and happened upon this fellow who was about to go down that same steep hill with a push-bike over loaded with wood for the funeral pyres. They were just checking the ropes before he started his no doubt rapid descent down to the busy river!Photograph: David Williams/guardian.co.ukShe was sitting there alone and a bit bored, having a drink, until he decided to take a chance with her. He made her laugh and behave in a very girlie way. Well done mate!
Photograph: Miltos Dikaros/guardian.co.ukThis photo was taken while travelling round New Zealand in a campervan with two friends. We were in a rush and waited what seemed like an eternity for the man to jump. Eventually he went for it and adopted an batman-esque pose as he fell through the air. A chance not to be missed.Photograph: Matthew Wilson/guardian.co.ukDuring an late afternoon walk around the souk in Fez, I glimpsed this scene in a nougat shop.
Photograph: Laura Kaye/guardian.co.ukThis picture, taken in a "pachinko" (Japanese style games arcade) in Osaka, shows poeple very concentrated on taking a chance. It's terribly
loud in there, and the machines accept small metal balls which people order by the basket.
