Aries

The Ram is a pioneer, warrior and extrovert leader, the very qualities that helped create the astounding Great Wall of China. For adventurous travellers seeking a real challenge, hike along seldom reached sections of the wall, float down the Yellow River on a sheepskin raft and take a camel into the Gobi desert.

Where to book: The Imaginative Traveller (01473 667337). A 21-day fully-escorted Pioneer trip departing April 28 costs £1,295pp (land-only) including accommodation (camping, villages and small hotels) plus some meals. International flights extra.

Taurus

Taureans love the finer things in life, and Orestone Manor perched high above Devon's rugged Lyme Bay is a delightfully intimate, small country house hotel, the former home of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's brother-in-law. The famous Victorian engineer was a frequent visitor and Rudyard Kipling was a neighbour. The Victorian atmosphere has been retained, and service is achingly efficient and discreet. Torquay and Teignmouth are only a few miles away, and the divine Devon coastline beckons walkers.

Where to book: Orestone Manor, Rockhouse Lane, Maidencombe,Torquay TQ1 4SX (01803 328098). From £52pp.

Gemini

For the sign of the twins, two experiences are better than one. Dolphin Square sits in the heart of London, bordered by the Thames and Westminster. Gary Rhodes has a restaurant within the extensive shopping mall. There's also a spa and fitness club. And Geminis can also get in touch with their spiritual side with a feng shui experience at the award winning Myhotel in Bloomsbury, within walking distance of the West End, the British Museum and Covent Garden. East meets west in a cool mix of Conran design and holistic attention.

Where to book: Grand Heritage Hotels (0800 056 0457). Dolphin Square Hotel, Chichester Street, London SW1. Single room from £165 per night. Myhotel Bloomsbury, 11-13 Bayley Street, Bedford Square, London WC1 (020-7667 6000). Room rates start from £155 a night plus VAT, inc breakfast.

Cancer

The Crab is a protector, nurturer and natural carer of all things, including the environment. This eco break on a Polish farm allows Cancerians to get back to nature. Farms are mainly around the Beskidy mountains, an area of outstanding natural beauty, with traditions dating back centuries and abundant wildlife, including deer, badger, black stork and wolf.

Dabrowka is an organic farm specialising in strawberries and vegetables. There are hiking and biking trails in the surrounding forests, which are full of mushrooms, berries and herbs.

Where to book: Commodore Travel (020-7262 3200). £495pp including scheduled flight from Gatwick, transfers, bicycle hire, seven nights' half-board accommodation and a destination pack.

Leo

Adrenalin-seeking Leos can overdose on quadbiking and sandboarding, take a dolphin, penguin and seal cruise, try a camel-ride desert tour, or sky dive, hot-air balloon and kayak - all in thrilling Namibia. Three nights are spent at the Sossusvlei Wilderness Lodge with views of the soaring red dunes and special star-gazing platform and telescope for you to check the heavens.

Where to book: J&C Voyageurs (01373 832111). From £2,140pp for eight days including flights, four nights' B&B at Swakopmund Hotel and three nights' full board at Sossusvlei.

Virgo

Virgos are born romantics, and a horse-drawn gypsy caravan holiday around Ireland will fire their imaginations. The caravans provide simple accommodation for up to four adults, with basic cooking facilities, a sink, all cutlery, sheets, pillows and blankets.

Where to book: Cresta Holidays (0870 3333303). A week's touring in Wicklow in May costs from around £350pp (two sharing) with up to two extra people travelling free of charge. Includes return Holyhead-Dublin ferry for car and passengers, caravan/ horse hire, and horse feed.

Libra

Balanced Librans can test their inner resolve and mental agility at Kicking Horse - the first year-round wintersports resort to open in the Canadian Rockies for 25 years. Featuring the highest mountain-top restaurant in Canada, with breathtaking views, accommodation is in nearby Golden where the Prestige Inn has an indoor swimming pool, fitness centre and restaurant.

Where to book: Seven nights with scheduled flights and hire of a 4x4 vehicle costs from £739pp, from January through to March with Ski Safari (01273 223680). Included in the day price of £275 are three descents, a guide, on-mountain lunch and a souvenir certificate.

Scorpio

Take the sting out of the Scorpion's tail with a five-star luxury break at one of Scotland's best known hotels - Gleneagles. The Eagle is the logo for this famous hotel and also the other traditional symbol for this water sign. A falconry break includes equipment, clothing, and a private falconry lesson with experts from the falconry school.

Where to book: The Gleneagles Hotel (01764 662231). Two-night package from £304pp full-board with a half-day's hawking included in the price and access to the hotel's leisure facilities.

Sagittarius

Freedom-loving Sagittarians have a strong desire to explore while yearning for home comforts. An indulgent three-night weekend at the beautifully appointed four-star hotel Cenobio dei Dogi, perched above the sea in the fishing port of Camogli on the Italian Portofino peninsula offers the best of both worlds. You can explore the area by boat or on foot, relax by the pool or on the private beach, and sample fine seafood in the panoramic restaurant.

Where to book: Inntravel Shortbreaks (01653 629010). £698pp (two sharing) including return scheduled flights from Gatwick to Genoa, private transfers and three nights' half-board in a superior sea-view room.

Capricorn

Capricorns are workaholics with a shrewd business brain, so the prospect of isolation on an island is the perfect antidote to all that pressure. Hellisoy island is off the coast of Norway. Its lighthouse, built in 1855, was automated last year and now provides accommodation. A little wooden boat carries you the 150ft from Fedje Island over to Hellisoy, where the cottage and lighthouse are the only buildings.

Where to book: The lighthouse costs from £14pp per night (00 47 56 16 40 70, fedje.org). Take your own car with Fjord Linex (0191-296 1313) from Newcastle to Bergen, driving the 80km to Fedje. From £100pp return.

Aquarius

Aquarians are unpredictable and lively, lovers of the different and sometimes the dashing diva. So they should feel at home on this weekend opera break to Vienna, world famous for its music. Stay in a comfortable hotel close to the Opera House with excellent balcony-grade opera ticket for Puccini's Tosca at the grand State Opera House on Saturday, February 1.

Where to book: JMB Travel (01905 830099). £417pp (two sharing), including two nights' B&B at the three-star Domizil Hotel, scheduled flights from Heathrow and opera ticket.

Pisces

This is the most creative of signs, and Pisceans will undoubtedly appreciate a painting holiday amid the inspiring natural parks of southern Spain. Beginner and experienced artists are taught for up to eight hours a day, with plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful scenery in Grazalamea, the Subbetica and the Sierra de Aracena.

Where to book: Andalucian Adventures (01453 834137). From £695pp for a week including transfers from Malaga, full-board in small characterful hotels, and all tuition. Flights not included but available from 15 different UK regional airports for around £200.
