The glaringly orange rooms come in small, smaller or tiny. There are no pictures on the walls, no carpets or phones, no wardrobes, minibars or, in some cases, even windows. You even have to pay extra to watch television.
In fact, the only benefit of staying at the new Easyhotel, which opens in London tomorrow, is the price.
There are 34 rooms, but only three have windows (and so will command a price premium).
The first Easyhotel is in Lexham Gardens, near Gloucester Road tube station in South Kensington but there are plans to franchise the concept and so roll out many more.
The concept could soon have a rival in the form the of 'Yotel', a type of pod hotel planned by the Yo! Sushi group. Prices would be around £75 per room, but include stylish touches like rotating double beds and mood lighting. The plans were announced last September, but development of the first Yotel seems to be very slow, with the rumoured opening at the beginning of 2006 currently postponed indefinitely.
