Resorts? Can't abide them. The very last place I want to go on holiday is an overdeveloped Mediterranean resort populated by Britons. And I loathe Gatwick.
Not even for £99?
You couldn't pay me. Quite frankly, I'm not surprised people end up on those dreadful beaches when sites like this are all they have to inspire them.
You're referring to the "resort guide" to Pisa, I assume? "Home to the famous leaning bell tower, Pisa contains some of the most fascinating architecture in Italy." And that's all.
Absolutely. I'd rather read a proper description of why the campanile leans than spend five minutes downloading IPIX software for a 360 degree view of Majorca.
But it says here that £129 will buy you a week in the crystal waters of Tunisia. And according to the guide to Israel, Eilat is a "perfect holiday destination" with "fiery-red" (copyright Thomson brochures) and "rose-pink" (copyright Cosmos Holidays) mountains in the background.
I suppose they'll be telling me to visit the Dome of the Rock next.
Well, now that you mention it ... the site's recommendations do occasionally conflict with Foreign Office travel advice.
It's a shambles. Even most brochures do better than this. "Cefalu in Sicily: this fascinating Norman-Arab town has a good sandy beach."
Admittedly, the resort guides leave a lot to be desired. However, if you know exactly where you want to go and want to spend as little time as possible booking a holiday, The First Resort is a reasonable alternative to the longer-established bargainholidays.com. File under "cheap and cheerful".
