Corfu
Avoid the chaos of Kavos and head for Maltas on Corfu instead, a tiny resort with a sprinkling of tavernas. It also boasts one of the longest sandy beaches on the island, so it shouldn't be hard to find a secluded spot for sunning. Departing August 28, Sunvil is offering a week's stay at the Tasia Studios from £349pp including Gatwick flights and transfers.

Andalucia
Keep cool underground in Spain by staying in a cave house in Andalucia. Alcobas was once a Moorish refuge in Granada and now sleeps up to 14 comfortably with a huge garden and terrace. It's available for the week beginning August 26 from a total of £480 through Homelidays. Yabadabadoo!

Malta
For a luxurious holiday without the price tag, Chevron is offering a weeks' B&B accommodation at the five-star Corinthia Palace in Balzan, Malta from £409pp throughout August. The hotel's spa is equipped with mud baths and a colour therapy sauna - if you've run out of paperpacks and sudokus.

Turkey
Bodrum may be the busiest and liveliest resort in Turkey but it sits on a stunning peninsula surrounded by beautiful beaches and tiny villages. Gumusluk is just far enough away from the bustle to feel like a real escape. Travel with Undiscovered Turkey on August 14 or 21 and a week's self catering at the Mandalin Studios in Gumusluk will cost you from £299, including Manchester flights and transfers.

Kenya
Finding a cheap safari option isn't easy. For those on a budget, the African Safari Club is offering a 13 night deal to Kenya from £599pp, saving a whopping £445. Full board accommodation is at the four-star Club Hotel Watamu Beach which lies in a secluded bay close to the village of Watamu. Flights and transfers are included in the price and safari options to Kilimanjaro-Kimana start from £190pp.
