What are you working on right now?

As the trends editor at Future Laboratory, my job is to establish the global impact of changing consumer habits on different brands. The current "one to watch" is Fractional Luxury - essentially a posh time share in which people join forces to own a stake in anything from a Learjet to a hotel. This one's going to have a long-term impact on the travel industry.

Where would you rather be?

New York City.

What's so special about it?

I love the down-to-earth friendliness of New Yorkers. Last time I was there, the World Series baseball finals were on. I watched them in a bar where a total stranger spent the afternoon enlightening me on the finer points of the game. I went in clueless and came out an expert.

What would you do there?

Visit Magnolia, a bakery on Bleeker Street for coffee and mammoth fudge brownies. I'd also make time for champagne and oysters at Grand Central Station's oyster bar, but top of the list would have to be a meal at Raoul's in SoHo. Their menu is second to none, but even better - if you're a smoker - is the secret dining room behind the kitchen. It only has four or five tables but there's also a patio where those in need of a nicotine hit can go and beat the ban.

Where would you stay?

The Rivington on the lower east side [hotelonrivington.com]. It's intimate, mysterious and architecturally quirky.

Who would you take with you?

My wife. Always.

What's the one place you'd like to see before you die?

Mazunte, a beautiful little seaside town on the west coast of Mexico. Once upon a time this was where much of Mexico's tortoiseshell came from but these days it's dedicated to the preservation of turtles and crocodiles.
