Another big dump is needed to cover the pistes after a mild second week in February.

After the heavy snow in the first week of February, the weather turned mild which did not allow the consolidation of conditions. Another big dump is needed to cover the pistes.

Austria

Some resorts experienced rain on the lower slopes, which has made those runs heavy and worn. However, the upper slopes are still good. Obergurgl (***) has some of the best all-round skiing due to the high altitude. Zell am See (**) has thin cover on the resort runs, but the skiing on the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier (****), just up the road, is excellent.

France

It is still wise to head high to find the best snow, to resorts such as Tignes (***) or Val d'Isère (***). Alpe d'Huez (**) benefited a lot from the snow, and conditions are much improved although not perfect. Val Thorens (***) is always a safe bet, although there are stones and rocks showing on the popular runs.

Switzerland

Saas Fee (***) has good conditions, especially up high on the glacier. Villars (***) is in a strange situation, actually having better conditions than its higher neighbour, Verbier (**). The half-term holidays are not helping, with any fresh snow quickly skied off the pistes.

Italy

Both Cortina (**) and Madonna (**) have looked after their runs with artificial snow throughout the season, and it is showing. There is better all-round skiing in La Thuile (***) though, which had the benefit of receiving some of the French weather systems.

Andorra

Resorts such as Soldeu (***) and Pas de la Casa (***) have managed to offer the majority of the skiable domain due to excellent early season snow and light snowfalls when it was most needed.

US

The east coast has seen the most snow recently, with both Killington (****) and Sugarbush (***) boasting fresh powder. In Colorado, the temperatures are ensuring that the snow conditions in the Vail resorts (****) stay excellent.

Canada

Whistler (*****) is still receiving regular snowfalls. Banff/Lake Louise (*****) also has excellent conditions. On the east coast, Tremblant (****) is improving all the time.

Key to conditions

* = Poor snow conditions. ***** = Fantastic on and off-piste.
