Go Spanish
Alicante and Malaga are the first two destinations to which Go, the low-cost airline, will fly from East Midlands Airport, its newest base. Daily flights begin on March 14 and launch offer fares start at £59 return, with thousands of free tickets available. Other destinations will quickly follow: Prague, Faro, Edinburgh and Glasgow (go-fly.com, 0870 6076543).
East Midlands Airport, near Castle Donington, Derbyshire, is also the home of bmi British Midland (0870 6070555, flybmi.com) which has itself launched a low-cost carrier, bmibaby. Last year, the airport handled a record 2.3m people - a 7% increase on the previous year.

Opodo.co.uk launched this week, the latest website to offer to find the cheapest flights for any journey from any airline outside the low-cost carriers.
Bellamy speaks
David Bellamy is giving a talk on the principles and practicalities of responsible tourism at the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington, London, on Thursday, February 21 at 7pm. The event is being organised by ATG Oxford to raise funds for its charity which identifies, develops and completes conservation projects in areas where ATG clients walk. The 2002 Michelin Red Guide: Great Britain and Ireland (£14.45) is published this week. There are 11 new pubs, bringing the total to 263, and nine more one-star restaurants, making 97. Two pubs have received one star- the Olive Branch in Clipsham near Stamford and The Star Inn in Harome, near Helmsley.

Malaysia Airlines is reinstating its direct Manchester to Kuala Lumpur service from April 2. The company had announced they were cutting the service this February and it will still not run during February or March. The service will be thrice weekly. Prices start at £627 plus tax (0870 6079090) but agents will often have deals.
Cycling in the rain
Ten waterproof leaflets covering cycle routes around East Devon, varying in length from 10 to 30 miles, are available free from East Devon's seven tourist information centres. Details of how to contact them are on eastdevon.gov.uk.
