First impressions: Reached via an unmade road running down to the eponymous brook. Two small bridges lead on to the patio and the entrance to this 18th-century cottage. Here, you can sink in to the sitting room's olive green leather suite and enjoy tea and scones, and a welcoming paw from Henry the labrador.
What are the rooms like? There are two, one double, one single. Light and airy. The fixtures and fittings reflect the homely nature of the cottage, and the windows look out on the fields with horses lazily grazing the day away.
The bed test: Well proportioned with a robust mattress and comforting sheets and pillows. Ideal for those who have spent the day exploring the surrounding countryside.
The bathroom: Large bath, basin and bidet with gold fittings and dark wood surrounds, complemented by a range of toiletries.
The restaurant: Meals are served in the conservatory, which looks at its best first thing in the morning when a good fry-up including free-range eggs courtesy of the cottage's resident hens provides the perfect start to the day. Evening meals are available at the cottage but the owners are happy to arrange transport to one of the area's restaurants.
What is there to do nearby? Explore the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains and the Offa's Dyke trail. In the evening, replace all that lost energy at either of two good local restaurants: the Foxhunter Inn or the Walnut Tree Inn.
How much per night? Double room with private bathroom £22pp B&B; single room £18pp.
