A good place to stay in Mumbai is The Salvation Army behind the Taj Mahal Hotel. It feels a little institutionalised, but the rooms are large and you also get a breakfast and tea (of sorts).

Sorry to hear about the troubles in Kathmandu - I was luckier, and loved it - even the power cuts!

The Guardian asked for tips on places to stay in Mumbai. A good place is The Salvation Army behind the Taj Mahal Hotel. It feels a little institutionalised, but the rooms are large and you also get a breakfast and tea (of sorts). It's a lot better then the the other dodgy hotels on the same road, and the location is good; it's near the cinemas and cosmopolitan bars, but the best thing is that you can nip across the road and escape the heat in the air conditioned Taj. In the hotel there's a great bookshop with daily English papers, and a wonderful bakery. Just the thing when you begin to find India hard work....

And you get a chance to become a Bollywood star as every morning a man (Leo?) will come to the Sally and ask you to be an extra in a Bollywood film...

Look out for the rain at about 3pm in Singapore.
Best wishes.
