In Malta, instead of taking the passenger ferry to Gozo from Cirkkewa, take the cargo ferry from Sa Maison (Sliema) - there's plenty of room for passengers and it's just as comfortable. It only goes once a day and the journey is longer, but you get a great view of the coastline round the islands and it's much better than paying for an expensive boat trip with a load of other tourists. Timetables etc are at gozochannel.com.

Without the necessary stamp, you will be turned back at the port.
