A necessity: Insect repellent. I have been badly bitten many times.

A luxury: Cigarette papers. It can be a real problem finding them, so I try to stock up.

A memento: I have a T-shirt which I had made for Jill Tweedie with a picture of the front cover of her book, Eating Children. When I went to Bosnia, I wore it every day.

If only: A device that allows you to speak a sentence in English and have it translated into the language of your choice. It would also have to have a way of conveying the emotion behind the words.
