The Scottish tourist board, VisitScotland, has dug deep to offer tourists and shoppers a remarkable gift for Christmas: up to £100 cash in return for spending a night and buying your presents in one of its two major cities.

The VisitScotland promotion lets shoppers who stay between one and three nights in either Edinburgh or Glasgow and spend £250 during that time qualify for a special cash-back gift of £50 to spend as they please. Those who spend £500 will receive £100 back. And the cost of the hotel counts towards those figures.

The offer is only open to the first 5000 people to call the number below, so be quick. Scots can register too - it looks like something of a deal.

· To qualify, ring 0870 3453037 and register your details and you will be sent a voucher, details of how the promotion works and a full list of terms and conditions. You can find accommodation deals on VisitScotland

If you are one of the first 5000 callers, you can return your voucher with receipts after your holiday to claim your cash. The promotion also applies to January sales shopping sprees.
