Burma boycott
The Burma Campaign UK wants talks with UK tour operators including Orient Express holidays and Abercrombie & Kent to encourage them to stop trips to Burma. A spokesperson said: 'We are ramping up the pressure in the context of the regime's clampdown on Aung San Suu Kyi and her supporters.'

American cry
From 1 October visitors to America could find themselves stranded following new legislation forcing all children, including babies, to have passports. The US also now wants UK citizens to travel with 'machine readable' passports or endure a lengthy visa application procedure.

Cover up
Nearly 40 per cent of British holidaymakers go abroad without taking out travel insurance, according to a survey by NatWest Insurance Services.

X marks the spot
The US may install airport x-ray machines that can detect plastic explosives - but also reveal a naked image of passengers. Firms are trying to devise an 'electronic fig leaf' to spare people's blushes.
