· Kate asks for off-the-beaten track activities in Paris, but does not say what her particular interest is. I have discovered two wonderful sights in the much-less-known 19th arrondissement: one is the Parc of Buttes-Chaumont, a most unusual and beautiful garden; and the Musee de la Musique in the Parc de la Villette. This is one of the finest museums of its kind I have encountered and warrants a visit of at least two hours. The surrounding park is also extensive.

· Try a visit to the Musee Marmottan out in the western suburbs, but easily accessible via the rapid transit railway (see their website marmottan.com).
