Dear Sue,
You sound as if you're having a wonderful time. Just a few words on Malaysia, where I spent a wonderful summer a couple of years ago.
Kuala Lumpur is not really somewhere you want to spend much time (although the big central mosque is definitely worth a visit), but close by are some fantastic places. Pangkor Island is just off the west coast, north of KL, and a good place to unwind. No hassle, beaches, lovely food and bike hire so you can cycle round the island. The Cameron Highlands (tea plantations) are also good, although difficult to reach. To get around on mainland Malaysia you'll have to use buses - there's only one train line. But don't dispair - the buses (well, the ones I used) are efficient and reasonably comfortable. Compared to India, travel and day to day chores in Malaysia are a doddle.
Another place close to KL and much more worthy of your time is Malacca - an old European-style city. And as long as you're not sick on the pavement (as I was) the people are really friendly.
