• Be among the first to see Warning Shots at The Royal Armouries' Museum, Leeds, a contemporary art collection that explores conflict in modern society and promises to be very different from most military exhibitions. 0113 2201999. Free. 10.30am-5.30pm.

• Moss Bank Park in Bolton hosts a traditional day out: classic cars, steam train rides, fairground attractions and children's activities promise to wear little ones out. 11am-5pm. Phone 01204 522311. Free.

• Learn about Bath's inauspicious beginnings from Michael Dacre at Farleigh Hungerford Castle, as he recounts the tale of a leper who accidentally discovered the curative properties of the waters there. There will be workshops on mask and hat making for those with a weaker stomach. 12noon-5pm. Adults £3.50, kids £2.60. Phone 01225 754 026.

• Spying in the Second World War is given the Hogarth Heroes treatment at Pendennis Castle, Cornwall, as the group of actors - as hapless military secret agents - use exploding footballs, a Trojan cow and a rocket-powered car. Noon-5pm. Adults £4, kids £2. Phone 01326 316594.

• The dome in Edwardian Central Hall, Storey's Gate, London, provides panoramic views of London and can be scaled during today's special open day to the sound of organ recitals from 1.30pm. Entry to and tours of the hall are free, while tours of the dome cost £3. Phone 020 7222 8010.

• Several of London's private garden squares are throwing open their gates and admitting the public. There will also be classical music, children's games and refreshments. The adult fee (£5) goes to green charities. 020 7839 3969 for participating squares/times.

• Newcastle and Durham universities try to oust Oxford and Cambridge from the pinnacle of university boat races. Their race on the River Tyne is preceded by riverbank entertainment from 12.30 and boating spectaculars from 2.30pm. The best view is from Sandgate Quayside. Free.

Aliens are invading Vogrie Country Park, Gorebridge, in an exhibition featuring original and replica props, costumes and models from popular sci-fi films. Dr. Who obsessives are well catered for. Phone 01875 821 990. 10am-7pm. Adults £2.50, kids £1.50.

• Scottish Wildlife Trust experts will be on hand at Mugdock Country Park to offer advice on plant and animal life during the Loch Ardinning Open Day. Kids can follow tree trails and explore pond life in pond dipping sessions. Phone 0141 956 6100. 2pm-5pm. Free.

• Be a living sculpture or hide in a mood pod at the Centre for Visual Arts, Cardiff, as part of the Fantasmic exhibition aimed at involving children in art through interactive events. Open 11am-5pm. Phone 02920 394040. Adults £3.50, kids £2.
