Short breaks are getting longer, according to specialist operator Travelscene. Bookings for city breaks of four days or more have risen by 25 per cent in the last two years, a faster growth than those for shorter stays. And seven-night breaks, perhaps split between cities, are growing even faster.

The trend is behind the launch of a new Cities Worldwide brochure featuring long-haul cities as far afield as Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Singapore and Sydney. Travelscene marketing director Nick Bamford said these cities attracted 'cash-rich, time-poor' travellers, who did not want to tread the traditional long-haul path. These are generally well-heeled couples aged 45 or over. They like to stay in two or more cities but in a short timespan. The brochures feature a choice of four hotels from three to five stars in each of 31 cities. The breaks are flexible, dictated only by the flight days and times.
