· Yes, if you are travelling by bus or on an organised tour. Unfortunately its not currently possible to cycle from Tashkurgan (China) to Pakistan (Khunjerab Pass), or from Khunjerab Pass to Tashkurgan. This change was brought in last year after apparently a cyclist was robbed. From Kashgar or Tashkurgan its possible to put your bike on the bus a charge will be made for this.
The border was closed for two days after September 11 but it is now open.

· We arrived in Peshawar on September 12 last year, and made our way via Chitral and Gilgit to Karimabad. We didn't encounter any problems on this fantastic highway, but I believe there has been trouble since then, near the Chinese border. Through Kohistan, the government writ only covers the road itself, so take care there.
