The grim tripper
A new trend of 'death tourism' is developing, according to Professor John Lennon of Glasgow Caledonian University. He notes that more tourists are visiting sites such as the World War Two concentration camps and ground zero in New York. 'More people seem to be getting a taste for it,' he says.
Foooooorrrrre!
The world's 'biggest golf course' is being built in the Australian outback. The Nullarbor Links golf course stretches over 1,400km between Kalgoorlie and Ceduna in the country's arid heartland. There is a separate hole at 18 petrol stations along the Eyre Highway, and golfers have to travel up to 100km between them. Expensive irrigation systems will not be required - fairways will be dirt, and the 'greens' will be oiled sand.
Georgian boost
The former Soviet state of Georgia has announced that EU passport-holders will no longer require a visa for holidays of less than 90 days. The country is keen to boost tourism, and there are now direct flights to Tbilisi.
In a bog on a bike
If all-terrain boarding (see picture story) isn't extreme enough for you, the world mountain bike bog snorkelling championships take place in Llanwrtyd Wells, mid-Wales, on Saturday. Riders have to cycle 90 yards along a six-foot-deep trench filled with boggy water, while breathing through a snorkel. Call 01591 610666 or see llanwrtyd-wells.powys.org.uk.
