In normal times, the offer of two weeks in Florida for £99 would sound like a gimmick, a come-on that was no longer available when you got through to reservations or was strung about with obligatory, unadvertised extra costs. But times are far from normal and as the travel industry struggles to counter the impact of September 11, the deal is real enough.
It comes from the Walt Disney Travel Company (0870 24 24 910) - the organisation's package-tour arm - which promises it has "plenty" of packages at the price. It includes flights from Gatwick on November 24 and a rental car - but does not cover accommodation or theme-park tickets.
Predictably, most of the often spectacular bargains that have appeared in the aftermath of last months terrorist attacks are in the US, but cruise prices to the Caribbean are tumbling too, as are hotel prices in London.
US
The Walt Disney Travel Company is also offering a two week fly drive for £289 a head, including a flight from Gatwick on November 15, which does include a Hopper Plus Ticket allowing five days' unlimited access to the parks. And it is lopping 15% off its Disney USA brochure prices for all holidays booked by the end of this month for departures until October 31 next year.
Half-price fly-drive holidays to Florida are on offer from Thomson. A two-week break, with flights from Gatwick on November 29, comes down from £549 to £274 for each of two adults travelling together.
City break specialist Kirker Holidays (020-7231 3333) has reduced the price of a three-night package at The Warwick on West 54th Street New York , from £818 to £598, based on two sharing.
From November 1 - December 14, Bon Voyage (0800 3160194) is offering three-night breaks, room-only, at the five-star Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York , flying in Virgin Atlantic's premium economy section, for £767, a discount of £915. Two-night breaks are down from £810 to £767.
Holiday Autos (0870 4000011, holidayautos.co.uk) is cutting US and Canadian car hire rates by 25% and 20% respectively. Daily prices in the former now start at £18, ski rates from £19.
Until the end of this month, Inter-Continental (0800 028 9387, interconti.com) and Crowne Plaza (0800 8222 8222, crowneplaza.com) hotels are offering reduced room rates in New York , ranging from $109 to $149 (about £75 to £100).
Ask about special deals in New Orleans . The city's Tourism and Marketing Corporation (neworleansonline.com) has teamed up with more than 60 hotels in a promotion offering three nights for the price of two.
Independent travellers should check bargains on the Florida Keys by visiting fla-keys.com. Hyatt's Key West Resort & Marina (305 296 9900, hyatt.com) is offering a fourth or fifth night free and extras such as complimentary breakfasts for two and discounts on some watersports until October 19 - then from November 11 until December 19. Its rate is $205 a night (about £140). Until November 12, Rick's Place Motel and Sailing Resort in Key Largo (305 451 3287, floridakeysresort.com) is offering studio rooms for $59 (about £40) and two bedroom suites for $69. Mention the special, which includes use of sailing boats and kayaks, when you book.
Marathon's Cocoplum Beach & Tennis Club (305 743 0240, cocoplum.com) is knocking 30% off all seven-night stays until December 20. Conch Key Cottages on Walker's Island (305289 1377, conchkeycottages.com) is offering 20% discounts on October and November rates.
Caribbean
British Airways Holidays (0870 24 24 245) has cut up to £180 off the price of a week in Antigua . A week at the three-star Rex Halcyon Cove in Antigua now costs £499. The deal covers departures until December 9 and includes flights from Gatwick and transfers but no meals.
Discover the Bahamas (01737 218 803) says reductions of up to £377 in the price of holidays at Hawks Nest Resort on Cat Island, Bahamas, are a direct effect of cancellations. Packages of various lengths are available. Fifteen nights' B&B now costs £1,592 including British Airways flights. The deals cover departures until December 10.
Thomson (0870 550 2555) has lopped £598 per couple off some two-week holidays at the Mango Bay all-inclusive resort in Barbados . The price for two is now £2,660. And it has cut the price of a fortnight for two at Casa del Mar - also all-inclusive - in the Dominican Republic from £458 to £1,452. Flights are from Gatwick on November 18 and 7 respectively.
Cruises
Cruise Classified (020-8385 9000) is knocking more than 50% off the price of nine- and 16-day Caribbean fly cruises on Royal Caribbean's Splendour of the Seas from Miami. The former comes down from £1,439 to £699, the latter from £2,359 to £1,049. Flights are from Heathrow.
If you can organise your own cheap flight to Florida, Royal Caribbean itself (0800 0182020) is offering nine nights on Enchantment of the Seas for £309 - £610 off the brochure price - on some November and December sailings .
Radisson Seven Seas (02380 682280, rssc.com) has knocked £1,275 off a seven-night Athens to Rome cruise, departing on October 7, bringing it down to £620. Its 13-night South Pacific cruises from Papeete on the Paul Gauguin are down £985 to £2,395 for departures are on November 3, 10, 17 and 24. And its seven-night Caribbean holidays from Fort Lauderdale on the Seven Seas Mariner, with departures on November 24 and December 1 and 8, drop £865 to £1,995.
And Celebrity Cruises (0800 018 2525) has nine-night Caribbean cruises, with flights departing on December 6 and 13, from £798 against a brochure price of £1,549
Worldwide
British Airways Holidays (0870 24 24 245) has cut £96 and £220 respectively off prices to The Seychelles and Mauritius . A week's B&B at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay, Seychelles, comes down to £949 for departures between October 1 and December 3.
Sunvil (020-8568 4499) is offering one-week self-catering holidays in Crete from £229 including car rental, accommodation with pool and flights - based on two sharing - or £249 for 14 nights. Respective prices before September 11 were £358 and £444.
Somak Holidays (020-8423 3000) has chopped £200 off the price of two weeks' half-board at the five-star Taj Exotica, Goa, with a departure on December 7, reducing it to £899 (two sharing).
London hotels
The Hotel Directory (0870 201 0123, thehoteldirectory.co.uk) is offering discounts in the capital including the October half-term break. Until March 31, for example, a night at the four-star Moat Houses in Kensington , Sloane Square or Drury Lane cost £44 a night per adult. Two children up to 15 can stay free (on a room-only basis) when sharing with parents. A similar deal, but only covering one child, is on offer for £45 at Jury's in Kensington . The rate is also £45 at the Rubens and the Montague, where a child up to 12 can share free. All these deals, which represent discounts ranging from £22 to £42, include full English breakfast. And the five star Conrad International Hotel at Chelsea Harbour is offering suites for £140 a night at weekends until December 16. That would cover two adults with breakfast and two children up to 12, room only. The usual rate is £280.
Air fares
Though airlines in the US have started cutting fares to win back business, many big international carriers have been too busy pruning staff and services to pay much heed to fare cuts. Expect deals from them in the next few weeks, following all the low-cost airline deals already announced. Trailfinders (020-7937 5400) is already offering round trips with Lufthansa to Boston for £199, Chicago for £202, Washington for £210, Los Angeles for £241 and San Francisco for £242. Flights are from Heathrow via Frankfurt. The deals cover departures from November 1 - December 14; passengers must stay for at least one Saturday or five other nights - and no more than one month.
Alitalia (0870 5448259) has extended a range of special seven-day advance-purchase offers on flights to Italy from Heathrow and Gatwick. They start at £99 return to Venice or Bologna and £109 to Rome or Milan . They have to be booked by October 2; passengers must fly out by the end of January - though travel is not allowed between October 18 and 28 or December 19 and 31 - and must stay at least one Saturday night and a maximum of one month.
Low-cost airline Go (go-fly.com) is offering flights to a range of European and UK destinations for £40 and £29 return respectively. Customers must book via go-fly.com by 5pm on Monday. The deals are available from Stansted to Bilbao , Nice , Bologna , Venice , Munich and Copenhagen - and from Bristol to Nice . Domestic flights are available on flights between Stansted and Belfast , Glasgow or Edinburgh, between Bristol and Glasgow and between Belfast and Edinburgh or Glasgow . The deals are valid for departures between October 10 and November 30. Passengers must book at least five days before travelling, fly outbound between Monday and Thursday, return between Tuesday and Friday and stay a minimum of one night. Go are also starting flying from Stansted to Newcastle with an opening one-way fare of £10.
buzz (buzzaway.com) is reducing the cost of flights to its European destinations for 10 days with fares from £20 to £39 one-way. Booking must be made before next Sunday for travel between November 1 and February 14 (excluding December 14 - January 7). Destinations include Bordeaux , Paris , Dusseldorf , Milan , Marseilles , Jerez , Berlin , Murcia , Lyons and La Rochelle .
Ryanair (ryanair.com) is selling one-way tickets from Stansted to 17 European destinations for £14.99 this weekend.
