Any celebrity guests?
Tony Blair stayed here a month ago for one night on a whistlestop tour around Cornwall. He held an emergency meeting here with the Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern in one of our function rooms. The Du Maurier Festival takes place nearby every May and that draws lots of authors such as Pam Ayers and Ruth Rendell who come and stay.

Any unusual requests?
A guest requested haggis for breakfast which is not on our menu. We got it by sending a staff member sprinting to his aunt's house to get some, which she happened to have in the fridge. We like to be able to rise to the challenge. We have a helipad and some guests like to have the option of arriving by helicopter.

What about sightseeing?
The surrounding area is very much a garden county and there are some beautiful gardens. The most popular one is the Lost Gardens of Heligan. They were the gardens of a large country house that had all sorts of staff who left to fight in World War I and never returned. The place fell into disrepair and the surrounding countryside just swallowed the grounds up. A group of local businessmen have developed it and have saved as much of the original as possible. Daphne du Maurier set her novel, Jamaica Inn, in the pub of the same name which is on Bodmin Moor, a very short drive away. It's a very popular tourist destination as a result of the novel and there are very nice shops and eating places there. It's beautiful if you catch it in the sun at the right time of year. We're also very lucky to be close to some lovely fishing villages, such as Mevagissey.

What about eating out?
People looking for something a little less formal than our restaurant should try a real Cornish pub for a Cornish pasty, such as The Rashleigh Inn in a little village called Polkerris. It's right on the beach and has oak beams and an open fire. Rick Stein's The Seafood Restaurant is in Padstow about 20 minutes away. He can just walk out of his front door with a bucket and spade to dig up mussels and clams to take them home and cook them.

What about a night out?
New Quay is a very lively village about 15 or 16 miles away from us. It mostly caters for discos for the younger set,but there are Sixties and Seventies nights for slightly older guests. The Cornwall Coliseum is very near us and has a nightclub attached.
