A top concierge reveals all

Any famous guests?

We have had groups from The Rolling Stones to the Spice Girls. The three child stars of the forthcoming Harry Potter movies were recently announced in London and the children were guests here. It was very much under wraps because they are probably going to be bigger than pop stars. Generally we have a very international clientele.

Such as?

Americans visit Britain throughout the summer and love to see London: Tate Modern, the Eye and the Gilbert Collection at Somerset House which is still really popular. At this time of year we get a lot of Arab guests who come to avoid the heat. They are very different, and the men do one thing and the women another. They don't do the sights but prefer to go shopping at the shops you'd expect, such as Harvey Nichols. However, they really love Marks & Spencer because it is value for money. This is their playtime so they often go out clubbing until 3am and sleep through the day.

Any unusual requests?

The weirdest was when an American couple celebrated their anniversary and the wife asked us to find two scantily clad young women to shower them with rose petals when they were bathing. That sort of thing can be very awkward. The most expensive request was from an Arab who had his own airstrip and wanted a jet to go with it!

What about a night out?

I am continually surprised that London can support so many restaurants, but it does. The Sugar Club is a favourite, but our own chef, John Burton-Raice, is going for three Michelin stars. He had two at his previous restaurant. Our restaurant is not an intimidating experience: if someone wants beans on toast he'll try to give them the best beans on toast they've ever had! In terms of bars, we are often asked about Titanic and Chinawhite while Home in Leicester Square is the favourite nightclub. The hottest event coming up is the Last Night of the Proms and only black market tickets are available.
